Chevrolet that bad of a brand?

Is Chevrolet that bad of a brand? I’ve owned multiple Chevrolet trucks and cars and owned multiple Ford cars and trucks. I’ve performed regular maintenance on all my vehicles as someone should but I’ve had my fords go to the shop for things that shouldn’t be happening my fusion had to get the whole AC system replaced at 10k miles! And my F150 the fuel pump failed and had to get a new one. Every Chevrolet I’ve owned has never had a problem the only issue I had was with a 2014 Silverado that thing was just not great in general. I know Scotty doesn’t like GM, but I feel he gives it more negative remarks than it actually deserves. I don’t know, thoughts?

@rockstarnick
My mom has had a 2010 Chevy Aveo and currently has a 2014 Chevy Impala LTZ Limited.

Everything seems to be a race to the bottom in quality these days, but by most accounts GM quality has really gone into the toilet since their bankruptcy.

I agree with @Chuck Tobias .

All the manufacturers lowered the production quality, but Toyota and Honda quality are still the best amongst all. I don't think we will never have the quality of early 1990 to early 2000 cars.

@yaser
Toyota is very reliable. But reliability isn't everything. For example, I think Toyota is also ugly as sin.

@yaser
"Best" for you isn't "best" for everyone. It's a subjective term and everyone has different needs. You are entitled to say you think Toyotas are the most reliable, but you are not an authority on what is best.

I say my opinion and I don't need anyone's approve. Hope it is clear.

@yaser
We are all very clear about your opinion about Jap cars, because you tell us on every question

Good for you. I’m telling to let other people know about it too.

He’s a little eccentric when bashing GM.

I have a 2008 Chevy Impala 3.5L, 190,000 miles, original starter, alternator, and fuel pump. In order for these devices to last you need to do maintenance like you said earlier. You keep an eye on your Cold Cranking Amps and voltage so other components don’t have to work harder. You flush your coolant so the radiator, heater core, and head gaskets don’t fail. You have the right mind, don’t prevent yourself from buying GM. Just like life in general, 2020 is a lot different than 1975.
My only other advice, whatever you decide to buy stay away from CVT Transmissions, and stop & start technology. Stick with the 6 speed transmission or higher and keep doing what your doing.

@oneimich
I agree completely with the transmissions. I may not be a mechanic, but I know a little more than the average person. I like ford products especially SN-95 Mustangs lol. I don’t know why I thinks it because I grew up around those as a kid. Born in 94, so I saw them all the time lol.

And use full synthetic products, brake, power steering, transmission, engine oil, differential, and the best coolant available. Heat and friction are the killers.

on GDI engine, clean the valves one a year, etc.

@oneimich
Thanks for the valve tip!

I'd say stay away from the super cheap cars they make (I think it's called the chevy cruze) most other chevys that I hear are about average, I'd say the cruze is like a unreliable version of the focus but then the focus got attention for premature intersection takeoff

@lockinhind
I like the cruse more than the focus, for some reason I’m also attracted to cheap plastic on cars haha!

@lockinhind
Yep, he’s right, the cheaper cars are definitely cheap....

@lockinhind
Eco boxes and trim I feel play a big factor

GM, Chevy, GMC are no worse than Honda, better than Toyota and Ford. All cars have good stuff and bad. Take anything "Scotty" says with a grain of salt, he's wrong about a lot of stuff.

@jamesedavis
You know that’s one thing I always forget to tell myself “take it with a grain of salt” and treat what he says with more of a observation and perspective.

@jamesedavis
Here is something I need to mention: This is not only Scotty's opinion on the quality of GMs compared to Honda and Toyota. If you do a simple search, you will realize that honest people agree with Scotty. The other thing is that if you baby any car, it may last a long time but in the same conditions, nothing can beat Japanese specially Toyota.

Scotty made a video about how bad Toyota quality was getting.

@jamesedavis
That’s the videos I watched that wanted me to post this thread.

I've owned nothing but GM my whole life and I don't regret it. I'm happy with every vehicle I've had and I still like them. I understand their limitations, and yes quality has decreased (across all manufacturers, mind you), but they still suit my needs. The drop in quality that I've seen has been mostly cosmetic anyway, which is not a huge deal to me. I have also become familiar with GM engineering, so I know how to deal with problems that come up.(the devil you know ...) GM makes vehicles FOR ME that nobody else does, and that's the bottom line. It's all about what suits YOU.

@mountainmanjoe
I love it.
