Hello Scotty, love your channel, keep doing what you do. I bought a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier with a manual transmission. The car currently has about 170,000 miles and runs like a top but the check engine light has come on. The local mechanic told me that it was a catalytic converter code and not worth fixing since the car is mechanically fine. I live in Tennessee with no state inspection and was just wondering if this was a problem worth correcting. I honestly am pleasantly surprised by the fun factor and driveability of this car and I hope that I can keep it a long time. Thanks.
You can try cleaning the cat, Scotty has a video on that. If that didn't help, I would live with it since you do not need for inspection.
Is it truly a bad cat or a bad downstream O2 sensor.
If it's a bad cat and isn't causing an exhaust restriction, you can continue to drive it with out trouble.
Having the check engine light on would drive me crazy. Unless I were to check periodically for codes I wouldn't know if a new problem occurred unless I were to have drivability issues.
