Dear Scotty: I have a 2006 ford escape XLT 3.0L V6 with 169000 miles that has a chronic alarm problem. Is there a way to turn off the alarm permanently? Can it be done with a scan tool?

No. But a good scan tool can point out the faulty sensor that's tripping the alarm.
In this case, take it to a repair guy with a $3,000 scanner and you'll be fixed for under 1/10th of that
