Conventional to synthetic blend

Hi Scotty, I recently bought a 2009 Ford escape XLT with 112000 miles on it for $1000. I've been meaning to get around to changing the oil on it but I haven't yet. I asked the previous owner of the vehicle what kind of oil he used in it and he said he used conventional 5w-20 oil and said he had no problems with it. I read the owner's manual and it said Ford recommends 5w-20 synthetic blend. Would it harm the engine to switch back to synthetic blend from conventional oil?

Thanks.

No.

In all likelihood, it’ll be fine to go from conventional to semi-synthetic, or even synthetic, as long as the oil spec meets the manufacturers requirements.

I have gone back and forth between conventional and synthetic in my Prius, and that baby has 300K+ miles. It’s mainly synthetic now.
