Hello I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 4.8l with around 115k miles and it says low coolant so I went to autozone bought coolant I didn’t add it yet I was wondering if I just add it to the existing coolant or I need to flush out the old if so how do I drain and add what are all the steps thank you and stay safe.

You need to flush the cooling system. There are many youtube videos showing how to do this. Stick with the coolant chemistry recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.

Or you can just add it if you want. Just realize the coolant needs to be changed every so often and if you've never changed, it's probably a good idea to change it. Coolant breaks down after a certain period of time during mileage or just age generally and those things is good for maybe 70,000 mi or 6 years


@scottykilmer ok thank you so much is it ok to siphon out the coolant and put the new in. Or are there other steps that im supposed to do before and after thank you and stay safe.
