Hey Scotty! 2012 Toyota RAV4 4cyl., 2wd. Bought the car used and it came with one key. The key and fob are one unit with a removable transponder. The key housing is breaking and I have epoxied it for the second time. Bought an AutoZone blank with the housing. Had the key cut and put the transponder in the new key. The buttons work and the key unlocks the door and allows the ignition to turn but the car will not turn over. I took the transponder out and and held it closer to the ignition, still nothing. The car only turns over with the old key and transponder. Why?
Was the new key programmed?
If your key is like my 09 Toyota's, there is a chip that you need to take from the old key to the new - it's black, about 1/2" by 1/4" by 1/8" on the inside "shoulder" of the key. You should see the niche to hold it in your new key case.
I moved the chip from the old to the new, and solved the same problem you are having.
