Hi scotty, love your channel!
I have a 2016 Toyota gt86 (subaru brz) manual, and I usually drive it like a normal car unless I'm on the track.
When I'm doing normal driving the rpm is always around 2000rpm unless I'm on the highway doing 70mph+ then the rpm is around 3000rpm. I always shift up when I'm around 2500-3000rpm.
Is this okay to do? I hear lots of people staying that for boxer engines it's better to keep the rpm high around atleast 3500rpm.
Thanks again
3000 RPM is where you get the infamous torque dip in the 86/BRZ/FRS. To get more response you will need to get it over 4000.
I have a WRX, which is pretty much the same motor but with turbo. Daily driving between 2000-3000 is fine, but it isn’t good to always drive a direct injected engine at low RPM and you will want to get the revs up from time to time. Maybe once a week, take it out and wind it up. At least in the 4000-5000 range. One of the joys of the 86 is how easy and fun it is to drive at its limit. Plus, not having a turbo means you’d have to go pretty crazy to really stress the drive train.
So, yeah, that car is meant to be driven at over 4000 RPM. Have at it!
