I have a 2005 Ford Focus zx4 with 167k miles. A few weeks ago It had a rough idle and would die at stop signs or without pressing the gas. I cleaned the throttle body with throttle body cleaner and this problem went away and worked perfect. I decided to clean the mass airflow sensor with crc mass airflow sensor cleaner last night and let dry for about an hour. Today seems to have brought back my rough idle and it has already died on me at a stop sign. Could I have screwed up my MAF sensor when cleaning it? Could my computer just need time to relearn? And about how long would this take?
you may have other issues going on, so keep checking:
- air filter
- battery voltage (engine on)
- vacuum leaks
- spark plug condition
- remove accessory belts and see if idle improves
a diagnostic scan tool would be a big help in this situation.
Drive the car so that the relearning process occurs.
Btw, did you remove the electrical connection of the sensor while you cleaned it?
Yes I completely removed the sensor from the car to spray down and let sit to dry.
Drive the car and it after couple of days, it did not feel normal, test the MAF sensor.
