Hi Scotty, what’s the easiest car to work on and the best designed car in your opinion?

I'm not Scotty but i'd have to go with any G.M. made before 1975 😀

About the easiest I've found to work on is a Rambler American with a flathead six-cylinder engine (1964 model pictured).

I'll see you Chuck and raise (lower) things a bit, perhaps to absurditiy. Saab 3 cylinder 2-stroke. No valves and you don't really need an engine hoist.

I'll see your Saab and raise you a Subaru 360! Even simpler than the Saab "corn popper" engine, the Subaru 360 featured a two-cylinder, two-stroke, 360cc air cooled rear engine. They were sold in the U.S. from 1960 through 1970. (I used to own a couple of those, a sedan and a van. Pics are from the interwebs, my Subaru 360s are long gone.)

Typo, the Subaru 360 was sold in the U.S. from 1968 to 1970, NOT 1960!

Easiest would have to be a pre-smog GM (especially small block) or Ford.  Simple engine, big engine bay.  Car guys love them, and just look around at how many aftermarket companies will sell you a Chevy 350 short-block.  (An old VW Beetle would be pretty easy, too, if you're into that kind of thing.)

For contemporary cars, Subaru (especially naturally-aspirated ones) would be at the top of the list.  The motors are specifically designed for DIY service (look where they put the oil filter) and modification.  My 21-year-old daughter services her own 2018 Crosstrek, and she's not exactly a car girl.

Just about any 4-cylinder Toyota or Honda would be pretty easy to wrench on yourself as well.

But stay away from the Germans, they love to add unnecessary complexity and require tools that only dealers can get.

Hey Chuck,

I hope you win the powerball so you can start making Ramblers again! The plant in Kenosha may be available :beg:

Unfortunately the plant in Kenosha was shut down and demolished years ago. The property now is Harbor Park upscale condos. {black}:vomited:
