In 2019 I purchased a 2015 Renault Megane 3 with the 1.5dci 100bhp diesel engine. In January this year I took the car for a clutch replacement. After I got it back with the new clutch fited I started noticing it had some trouble starting cold and the revs were sort of unstable right after starting. Previously it would start and immediatly go to about 850rpm and stay stable there until i push the pedal. But after I got it, when starting cold went to 850 for about 5 seconds, then down to about 700 and then up to 900 until stabilizing back at 850. I also noticed that when driving at about 1500-2000rpm the revs will apear to flinch. Not enouth for the needl to go down but i defenatly notice the engine loosing power for a fraction of a second. Took the car back to the mechanic several times and they always said everything is ok. Unsatisfied i your tip to find vaccum leaks using wd40. I didnt really find any vacuum leak but while inspecting I found a big rubber hose about the diameter of a soda can behind the left headlight completely disengaged. I assume its and intercooler hose? I plugged it back in and now the car is working fine. My question is, could the engine got damaged for driving 3 months with this hose disconnected? Anything I should do now? Using torque app and an obd2 bt reader i have no fault codes.
I doubt it is an intercooler hose, probably a vacuum feed. if it was gonna cause damage it would have been noticeable before now I would think.. I would show it to the shop who did the work and document it somehow. Any decent shop has to carry a liability policy in case something they do causes damage. So in the event something should happen later(Doubtful) but just in case you have it documented that it's their fault.
a vacuum hose the size of a soda can? I think not.
I missed the soda can reference somehow. 🤣 Been a long day.
If it was just a hose for the engine intake, or intercooler air intake, it won't have a huge effect.
Thank you for the replies.
Its a hose thats under the circuit breaker box and joins 2 plastic tubes making a 45º turn and coming from under the left headlight, and the other goes back and turns to the area where the air intake filter is, this is also adjacent to the area where the turbo, egr and intake manifold sits. The engine bay is crammed full so i couldnt figure where it goes. But unlike most other hoses there are no clamps or clamp marks on this one, so i figure its supposed to be unclamped. Gonna tae it for another run today after waiting for the engine to cooldown since the unstable revs were most obvious when idling after coldstart.
thx again and sorry for my poor english
