How do you see Covid changing the field of auto repair? Everything's changing, and this is too
I don't think so, since you can not fix your car via zoom. Can you?
No changes. Shops would not allow customers to "mingle with employees" so now they will wear masks and social distance. Car repair is big business and government allows big business. Small shops might go broke.
less people will drive to work. it's going to depress not just the auto service industry but the entire economy
Will our habits control the economy?
of course our habits affect the economy
I think it might accelerate the trend of more mobile mechanics.
maybe for basic things. But it will be hard to mobilize a hydraulic hoist and a shop full of tools.
I think you are right on that. If you look at RepairSmith, YourMechanic, Wrench, it's the more basic stuff, where one doesn't need a hydraulic hoist. They don't do everything.
also, healthwise it doesn't make sense. From the comfort of my home, I can have a tow truck or courier come pick up my car and take it down the mechanic's shop to be serviced, without ever coming near him or other people.
It seems far riskier to have mechanics roaming around visiting thousands of homes.
