Hey scotty I was driving my 2012 ford fusion 2.5 4cyl at night I had my lights on and backlight dimmer set all the way up and while driving they flickered on off made some sort of sound and the dimmer setting went way down and it won't go back up to its brighter setter then about a week later it flicker again and the brightness went back up but it quickly dimmed back down and I can't get it to go back bright
For my experience you're dimmer switch is breaking what I do in that case since they don't sell it is I just take it apart and I bypass the dimmer switch by running the wires directly cutting the dimmer switch out then it works at full power all the time pray it's that and not your dashboard circuit board starting to short out as they are relatively cheaply made and with age they will buckle and then start acting wacky
