Dealer's Upselling?

I have 3 Ford hybrids, all under 60,000 miles.  These cars have had no problems whatsoever.  At dealer oil changes they demand using a variety of BG products at a cost of an additional $250.  This is not listed as a service needed in the car's manual.  I wonder if this upselling or something necessary?

Of course it's upselling. The service writers are paid on commission and the dealership wants to empty your wallet for as much as they can get away with.

Assuming they are out of warranty why are you taking those cars to the dealer for oil changes? You'd be much better off with a good independent mechanic. (Also stay away from quick-lube joints and chain shops.)
