Hey, so I have a hummer h3 08' with the i5 3.7L, auto tranny with 105k miles and I recently inherited a 04' Lexus LS 430 v8 with an automatic transmission that has around 104k miles both of them are due for timing belts, transmission flushes, and tires. Should I sell the hummer and maintain the Lexus or sell both of them and buy something newer? The Lexus is in pretty immaculate condition for a 17-year-old car and was very well maintained, but I was quoted around 1300 for a timing belt and around 950 for flushing/changing tranny fluid, brake fluid, coolant, and putting some new radiator hoses on.
shoutout from Houston, Thanks
It depends, I have never been a fan of the H2 or H3, and you will probably lose money selling it. Definitely do the Lexus as it will be your most dependable vehicle. Also carries a better resale value to. Whoever quoted you those prices is trying to rip you off though. First never flush your transmission. Just change the fluid and filter. And 950 bucks for it is ridiculous. Second a toming belt job should be about 800-1000 at most. Shop around, and if you can manage it, keep the H3 for a fun vehicle. You could always park it for a little while til you can afford to do it’s belt later.
I'd keep the Lexus. The Hummer is ok, but not worth much so if you can afford to let it sit for a bit and then do the maintenance I'd go that route.
If you have to sell one, sell the Hummer.
Keep the Lexus and unload the Hummer.
H3 is just a rebadged Tahoe/Yukon. Lexus is pretty good, but as you said it's 17 yrs old. Can last a long time if you keep up with maintaining it. It's pretty complex so totally up to you. Drive the Lexus as long as it stays reliable, and if the H3 is not giving you any issues then keep it. The prices you were quoted for those jobs are ridiculous.
The Hummer H3 shares the same platform as the midsize Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon. The H2 is the one that shares a platform with the Tahoe/Yukon.
Ok...I thought the H2 was on the 2500 hd chassis. My bad.
No worries 🙂
Keep the Lexus, lose the Yuppie 4x4.
I would just keep.the lexus. It will be less of a headache.
