I have read and heard that direct injection engines lack the decarbonizing/cleansing that gasoline has on
intake manifold injected engines. I am concerned about carbon build up on the intake values of my 2.0 L Buick engine. Is there a way to mitigate this problem?

Yes, install an oil catch can.
Oil catch can as said above, and ALWAYS change the spark plugs on time every time. I’m still confused that a lot of these engineers don’t put dual injectors on these GDI motors. Maybe someone could tell me why? I know Ford finally wised up and started putting them in the 2.7 and 3.5 Ecoboost motors which has helped mitigate the buildup. And I believe Toyota has done the same but other than them I don’t know of another company doing that. (Although I’m sure there’s others).
