Do I need Hub centric rings?

I recently bought a set of Michelin x-ice i2 winter tires used on a set of aftermarket aluminum rims. These were off a 2015 Highlander, same bolt pattern as My 2010 Murano. I have been driving around with these tires for about week now with absolutely no shaking or difference, other than the obvious better winter traction. Do I absolutely need these hub-centric rings??? The guy before Me never used them when on His Highlander and they were even smaller hubs...

The center bore is supposed to support the weight of the vehicle. If it's not tight, then your vehicle is sitting on the lug studs, which they were not designed to do. They will gradually waller out until the wheels and your vehicle will go their separate ways.
