Hey Scotty, I've been an auto hobbyist as long back as i can remember and even have a level of professional education and experience in the trade.
My truck is a 2016 tacoma trd offroad with a manual transmission. I'd like an opinion on if it's always better turn rotors or is it ok to just replace pads assuming no majors ridge of obvious warping. My experience has always been the its better to turn or replace them but this simply comes from my time at a small shop working on a mix of old and morderish vehicles.
Your experience is correct. It’s usually a good idea, but sometimes, using good quality pads like Akebono with the original rotors, works just as well.
But with rotors being cheap these days, it’s probably a good idea to just replace them to prevent them shuddering during high speed braking in future.
Personally, if the rotors pass inspection reuse them. If they do not pass inspection then replace them, unless they are really beefy and can be cleaned up by removing a minimum amount of metal.
No. For the price of a rotor turning you can buy a new rotor, but it sounds like your rotors are fine.
