Do manufacturers install all the options

Hello from Kingston Ontario Canada. Do manufactures install all the options then just don’t activate them.

I have a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe XL AWD with a 3.3l V6 with 136000KM. Because TPMS isn’t mandatory here in Canada I was wondering if the system is installed just not activated for consumer use. Just courious if they install everything but don’t activate it on the computer just to make it more efficient when building them as they are all the same just the programming is different.

It depends. I think some do and some don’t.

For example, Tesla install a ton of stuff, but only activate if you pay for it.

Not sure about TPMS, because it would require additional hardware. Unless of course they just put TPMS hardware in everything.

TPMS has been mandated in the US since like 2007.

I had a 2013 Ford Fusion for a little bit. Sirius satellite radio wasn't in every car. I had an SE, so I personally had Satellite radio. My 2017 Mustang doesn't have Sirius. My radio would need to be taken out and a new one would have to be installed.

Oh that’s interesting! I wonder if it’s different in Canada. Perhaps no mandate, so it is disabled.

By law, Canadian manufacturers don't have to produce vehicles with TPSM systems.

It's not about installing something and not turning it on. It is about the money - specifically production costs.

Although one might think a manufacturer could reduce production costs by leaving off certain features, often it's less costly for them to produce all 'models' with the feature included. Don't think this cost wasn't factored into your vehicles cost, it was.

Although yours was not installed from factory, if you want TPMS there are aftermarket ones for as cheap as $25.

I bought one for both my cars, and have been happy with them. They are actually better than the original, as they show me the pressure of each tire. Super easy to put on as well, you can have everything going in like 5 minutes.
