Hi Scotty, i'm Sonny 36 years old from Edmonton, Alberta. I have here a 2018 Toyota RAV4 LE, automatic transmission and has 34,892 ODO. I'm also having a set of decent winter tires installed.
I usually carry 1 tire with rim at the back (on top of spare tires) during summer. It's fall right now and Edmonton is covered with snow. Sliding and slowing down became part of our daily living.
Do you recommend bringing a tire as added weights really helps?
Thanks
-Sonny
Added weight does help. Distribute it as evenly as possible over your drive tires, which in your case I assume is all wheel drive so the back seat would be best.
If you havd FWD vehicle, adding weight in the back doesn't help much. In any case is good to have snow chains in car. You never know.
Years ago I had to use them for 5 meters (ca 2ft) distance to get from a snowy parking place to a road.
