Dot5.1 into Dot3 Brake System.

Hi Scotty and community,

My Lexus supplier doesn't sell Dot3 - they recommended Dot5.1 under the internet car menu for my Lexus IS220D. I checked with the company rep and he said it was compatible. Also checked various posts on the internet, and got 2 mechanics' oppinions before flushing the system and putting in as much DOt5.1 as possible.

I'm pretty confident that it is compatible. But there's still the odd post on the internet saying this and that. Can the community here settle this, or am I gonna die a flaming death and hopefully not take anyone else with me?.

Thanks folks,
Alex

Yep. Won't hurt a thing.

Yes, DOT 5.1 brake fluid is compatible with DOT 3 and DOT 4. (It's actually an improved DOT 4.)

It is DOT 5 silicone fluid that is not compatible.
