Drive Belt

Hello Scotty, I have a two part question, (1) when replacing the drive belt should you also replace the drive tensioner and (2) does Gates make quality belts?

I have an ‘04 Ford Explorer with 170k miles and I’m wanting to replace the drive belt and want to know should I replace the tensioner also and do Gates make quality belts?

Seeing as how it's 20 years old it's probably not a bad idea to change the tensioner, but be sure to use a quality replacement, preferably OEM Motorcraft. Gates is one of the leading brands of drive belts.
