I drive a 2013 Chevy sonic with the 1.8L no turbo ecotec 4 cylinder. The engine makes a lot of clicking noise, especially when cold. Could this be a sign my timing belt needs replacing? (Car has 89,000 miles with the original timing belt) or is it something else?

It is a good idea to replace the timing belt.

Where in the engine of the noise coming from?
Seems to be coming right from the engine itself
More specifically, from inside the engine. A mechanic I know says it could be the lifters making noise, or it could be low oil pressure/level, in my case both of those are normal.
Ok. Then I would replace the timing belt for good measure
