EGR tube, valve

I brought my 1992 Chevrolet Caprice 322,xxx miles to my mechanic when I noticed white- grayish smoke coming from the tailpipe. I was concerned that the worst was soon to occur, a blown head gasket.

The report back was that the EGR tube (valve?) needed to be replaced.

I'm a layman. Does this make sense to you?

Get the headgasket test kit and try it to find out about the head gasket issue. You may have oil burning issue that your mechanic suggests replacing the EGR valve but you can ask him.
