Hi, my Acura MDX 2012 with 166k miles started burning oil, not too bad, just every 2000 miles the indicator comes up and I refill a quart and everything is good for another 1000+ miles.
My question is if I keep refilling like this let's say around every 1500 miles do I still need to do oil changes every 5k miles??
Or does it take care of itself since I'm refilling with new oil constantly?
Please search the board, this has been asked multiple times.
Here's a hint:
Q: What do you get when you add 1 quart of clean oil to 3 or 4 quarts of dirty oil?
A: 4 or 5 quarts of dirty oil.
Isn't that a pretty obvious question? Oil filters get just as dirty, if not dirtier and more quickly than an engine that doesn't burn oil. Soot gets into the oil filter, which clogs the thing up more quickly when you burn oil. Are to trying to skimp on oil changes, or something? Oil (and filters) are cheap, engines are VERY expensive. Unless you want to throw away $$$ on a used or remanufactured engine, do your oil changes.
