Scotty, you always recommend people to stay away from going to shop that offer rebuilding transmissions. My 2001 mazda miata with 123k miles manual transmissions might need to be rebuilt since its starting to make weird noise but the car is still runs pretty strong with no problems changing gears and according to my mechanic i could still drive just fine. My mechanic said the bearings are going bad and he can do it for $800 and he has done multiple repairs on transmissions. Do you think its worth it have them repair it and is repairing a manual transmission a lot safer than auto? Thanks.
Well if the guy knows what he's doing. But I would demand actual customers that he rebuilt them. For that you can talk to see if he actually fixed them correctly. Unfortunately those modern manual transmissions are extremely complex inside. But there's a million miatas out there and many guys will just get a used transmission and put that in from a wrecked car
