Engine idles roughly

  • Hello Scotty hope you are doing great. First let me tell you you’re an awesome mechanic ! I have a 2014 Nissan Altima S, 2.5l and I’m currently running on 130k mileage. What I notice that I find very weird and bothersome to me is that when I start the engine it sounds very rough as if you’re starting a truck. Then it takes about five minutes before it stops. I know in your previous videos you say that it is likely to happen in the cold time but this happens for both hot and cold weathers and has been going on for the past 5 months. Another problem is when I driving every now and then I’d get a little hesitation (bucking feeling) as if the gas is not reaching the engine . I use sea foam in the gas tank on several occasion but I’m still having the issue. Let me also tell you that I have a used engine instead of the original.

Per Scotty, Seafoam is not appropriate to use in modern automobile engines. Check the simple stuff like filters, spark plugs, fuel pressure. Scan for codes and live data. Since you have a used engine and probably no service history for it you might want to do a compression and/or leakdown test to see if you're fighting internal engine problems.
