Hello, I have 2016 Lexus RX and my disc brake rotors might be warped because I can feel the vibrations when braking downhill.
is it safe to continue driving indefinitely with warped rotors?
Do you mind running into things because your brakes are not 100% effective? Brakes and steering are not places to economize.
Brake pads and rotors are "wear parts".
They're not made to last forever.
And these days even an OEM rotor from the dealer is under $100 for your car.
So the 1st question would be, when were the brake pads and rotors previously replaced?
Rotors warp from excessive heat. If you aren't "riding the brakes" then maybe you have a caliper that's sticking and isn't releasing. If so, then bite the bullet and replace any faulty caliper when having the brake job done.
But like I say, this kind of stuff is just typical vehicle maintenance. Like oil changes, spark plug replacements, maybe replacing an ignition coil when needed, or replacing worn tires or front end wear parts.
You have a nice car. If you do the maintenance you can get 20 years out of it. (Look at the Service/maintenance schedules in your owner's manual)
If you neglect the car, you'll be shelling out a lot more money to replace it with another car
is it safe to continue driving indefinitely with warped rotors?
Of course not.
the vibration will eventually wear out your steering, suspension, bearings, etc.
Why would you cause thousands of dollars of damage to save $40 for a brake rotor?
Scotty did mention in a recent video that lots of people drive with warped rotors for years and he didn't seem too concerned. its probably nothing to panic about, however, as stated above you should replace them at some point. the pads will most likely wear out sooner anyway so you'll need to replace those.
