Hey Scotty, I have a 97 4runner 4cyl m/t. Problem: the engine oil dipstick smells like gas, I checked the spark plugs and they were all drenched in gas too. Could it be the fuel injectors? They are bone dry on the outside, no visible leaks. Could they be leaking internally into the cylinders? Or could it be the fuel pressure regulator? I opened the vacuum line to the FPR and it was dry, no gas smell. Any thoughts? Thanks
Yea, pressure test fuel injectors to see if they leak. Also, suck on the FPR vacuum line, are you able to suck any air/volume through it?
If gasoline is sitting on the pistons, yes , it can pass the rings and enter the oil.
Sounds like leaky fuel injectors.
There's a thread on the Toyota-4runner forum here that has some good ideas...
