Is my engine oil level okay? It is in the middle of the cross hatch mark
Feel free to add a picture.
It's just as important to know whether the oil is dirty or not, or if it smells (of gas or coolant).
Parenthetically, the difference between the high and low range/marks, on many dipsticks, is about a quart.
It's very straightforward. the hatched area is the "safe zone". Just don't let the oil level go outside the safe zone.
Cold engine, on a flat surface, you want to have it in the hash marks. Anywhere in is fine. If it dips below, you need to add. If it is above, you added too much.
Sounds like yours is perfect.
Were you parked on a level surface? Was the engine cold/warm? Any smoke from the exhaust?
The engine was cold and I was at a flat surface.
Then there’s nothing to worry about. Does the level change after an oil change?
