Hello scotty this is Erick from yuma AZ. I have a 07scion tc with 177 thousand miles. My engine is making hard knocking sounds so my guess it's that my engine is broken. My question is can my engine get rebuilt, if I need a new engine does swapping to a newer toyota engine be too much of a hassle (will tranny work on newer engine the harness, computer, etc.) thanks.
You can have it rebuilt but very few shops will rebuild it correctly. I would just look at a new vehicle for the price an engine will set you back.
You don't want to change up to a newer motor. There are a lot of other moving parts you would have to change as well and it would cost you more than the car is worth to do it.
Thanks for the info with 05 thru 10 toyota engines being fault at wasting oil I wanted to look into swapping to a newer one but thanks for your answer
You're welcome. It can be done, it just won't be cheap. You could literally buy a newer Corolla or Camry for what a swap would cost.
You might look into a good used engine from Japan. Cars there tend to be retired while still perfectly good due to insanely strict inspection laws.
