I bought a Toyota sequoia with aftermarket tires they are 285 50r 20. I need to get new tires so I'm wondering if I should get the same size or a different size.

thank you all for your help. I live in the Catskills

What is the stock tyre size mentioned in your door jamb?

Stick to the stock size, if you use the vehicle normally.

stock is 265 70 16, id have to get new wheels

RIP your spine. The ride quality & comfort on your present set must be brutal...! I’d seriously consider getting a used set of stock wheels from a junkyard. Some other ricer may want to buy your 20”s..

No you don’t need new wheels. Any tire place can calculate what tire you should run on a 20” rim to be. I checked and your close. A 285/45r20 is a little but closer to the original size than what you have currently. You speedometer is about 2- 3 miles an hour off at 60mph. With your current size according to the calculation when your doing 60 your actually doing 62-63. If you switch to a 285/45 when your doing 60 you’ll actually be traveling 59 mph. So keep your 20” rims your doing fine with current size. Or switch to a 45. Both are the closest on one side or the other to the original width and circumference of the original 16” tires. The 285/50 is just a tiny bit bigger, the 285/45 is a tiny bit smaller.

A 265/50 will be exact width of stock tires. Go to tiresize.com and compare. You’ll see the speedometer changes, and each tire side by side for comparison. 275/55 is another choice as well.
