Engine rev flare on automatic transmission gear change

Topic starter

2010 Holden Calais V8 (L77 engine). 117000 kilometers. I believe the automatic transmission is the GM 6L80-E. When cold the engine rev's will flare slightly when the transmission changes from 2nd to 3rd. Does this indicate the transmission needs rebuilding? The transmission is due a fluid change - should I just change the fluid or have a flush and fluid change?

Thanks!

Change the fluid (drain & refuel) with the correct transmission fluid for your vehicle. NEVER flush engine or transmission fluid, unless it’s your last resort to keep the car running.

Check if the problem persists post the fluid change.

the VE commodore(Pontiac in the US) is the same as the FG falcon it has no dipstick to check fluid level, drawing below shows where the fill plug is. i think this type of transmission requires sump to be removed to be able to drain all fluid out, correct me if i am wrong

i have read in the past that these transmissions need to be warmed up to  set temp to be able to check the fluid level correctly, correct me if i am wrong.
