Hi Scotty. I bought a 2021 Sorento AWD and it seems to drive fine. OK stop laughing long enough to answer my question. It has push button start and the engine stops while you are standing at lights. The instant you take your foot off the brake it restarts and away you go. It tends to jerk a little if you move to fast from brake to gas pedal so I turn that feature off. Does it cause any excessive wear leaving the engine running while in drive? This is a new dual wet clutch transmission without a torque converter. The dealer did not know the answer. The dealer did not know much of about a lot of things like how many gallons the tank holds, or can you get a homelink mirror so I can open up my garage like my old Hyundai did before the engine blew up. So my question is while waiting at a light with the engine shutdown disabled hurting anything except my gas mileage?
It will not hurt anything.
Most engine wear occurs at startup. That is the only time parts are moving without proper lubrication. Even if the engine shuts off for 10 seconds, all the oil drains to the pan and wear will occur when the engine turns back on.
Idling the car at a light is way better for the motor than leaving the stop/start system engaged. I recommend turning it off every time you get in the car.
