Trying to get my first car. Is a lexus es300 with 90k miles worth it? Saw it on Facebook market place going for 2,800. Wondering if could this be a good reliable car.
Too old. Old luxury cars have lots to go wrong with them and are usually a poor choice for a first car. Lacks modern OBD2 diagnostics for dealing with problems. Chances are the odometer has been tampered with. (Facebook marketplace is a rat's nest of scammers.)
Something simpler like a Corolla or Civic would be a better choice as a first car even if it had significantly higher mileage.
I would pass. Chuck’s assessment is correct. As a first car, you don’t want to be bogged down with repairs to keep the vehicle running. I’d look for something newer, i.e. model year 2000 and newer: Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Toyota Avalon, Toyota Corolla, or Honda Civic are good choices.
I would be very leary if that is the true mileage. What type of use do you need out of it? It is an old vehicle. If it checks out, I guess it could be an okay vehicle.
Definitely NOT from Facebook.
