Hi Scotty, luv all your videos , but I have to ask ..are you down playing and crapping on EVs because if it became all electric your mechanic industry would be pretty much dead ? With EVs needing way less maintenance.  Thanks habz24

As someone who actively supports finding an alternative fuel, I don't believe electric is the final answer. Scotty has not just said, "I hate electric vehicles" but given his reasoning as to why they are not a valid replacement for gasoline at this time.

I don't think he is worried about the industry. He isn't hurting for work and even if they stopped gas vehicle sales tomorrow, the sheer volume of existing vehicles would support work for decades to come.

EVs killing your industry ...

pretty much dead

Dream on. ICE vehicle sales would continue to rise were it not for COVID.

I don't see any electric pickups, vans or heavy duty trucks.

Electric vehicles are still just impractical toys for idealists and early adopters.

Mechanics like Scotty have loads of work for decades to come.

I would imagine that when it comes time to replace the battery pack, it will make up for the low maintenance claim........And assuming it doesn't have a defective battery pack that burns your house down.

Reminds me of the Chevy Bolt battery recall and telling people to not charge the batteries over 90 percent for now. It makes me think a small Apple Watch has better quality battery than the one on these Bolts.

I would suggest watching Scotty's videos regarding electric vehicles once again and considering his reasons for why EVs are not the best choice or why it does not make sense to make all vehicles EV given the current lack of infrastructure or even the true costs of EV vehicles which nobody really talks about. I think then you'll realize he has valid arguments which make sense and have no sign of him saying they are bad because it will have negative influence on his industry.

Mechanics are not worried about the EV onslaught because that is still a minuscule percentage of vehicles on the road.  There are so many existing ICE on the road and many more to be added that mechanics will have work for a long time.

Even a lot of the aspects of EVs can be worked on by mechanics.  See below:

Scotty usually cites infrastructure as the key challenge to EV’s.

Also, he even mentions in some of his videos for new mechanics to study up on electricity and all that related stuff.

If they were building them to accomplish what the GM ev-1 was for, something to get you to work and back home, they may be able to accomplish that fairly easy. That car would get like 90 miles, which is more than enough for most people, and was simple, not super fancy gadgets like the newer ones.

I travel one way about a thousand miles on average. It would stink to have to stop every couple of hundred miles for like an hour to recharge. Not to mention I tow trailers, and need a bigger vehicle, and drive in winter, talk about killing a battery. I would hate to have to figure out where the next charger is, and the amount of charging stations needed for everybody is just crazy.

Some people might think they can find a way to charge even faster, that is really bad for batteries!

It is going to be a long while before electric vehicles become the majority.
