Fix my 2010 Corolla engine or buy a new car?

So I'm pretty sure I spun a bearing in my car.  Started knocking and I drove it a little further and I could feel the engine getting tighter.  I have a 2010 corolla and it has 270,000 miles on it.  The cost to fix it will probably be high since the engine has to be pulled and the crank probably needs machine work.  My other option is to replace the engine, which I'm guessing will be around $3000??  My car is a manual transmission and I'd like to continue to own a manual transmission and my car is in great shape and still looks great.  I recently replaced the front rotors and calipers and I'm probably going to need new tires soon.

I have no money at the moment, so I'm in a quandary.. do I repair my old car or buy a used car.  They car buying market right now is ridiculous and cars seem to be way over priced.

I'm looking for a little advise on what I should do.

Thanks

-Rob

That's unusual on a Corolla even with that kind of mileage. A low mileage JDM used engine might be the ticket if the car is otherwise in good condition.

pretty sure it was my fault. I new my oil was low. The light would go on under hard breaking. I had an oil change scheduled for the next day so why do anything about it. I wasn't thinking a took a hard turn at 5krpm. Pretty sure the oil pressure dropped and dried up the bearing... Why JDM? why not domestic?

JDM engines tend to be lower mileage than used engines in the US. Cars in Japan tend to be used less and the overly stringent inspection regulations tend to take them off the road well before the engines are worn out. Those low-mileage engines are salvaged and shipped to the U.S. and other countries.

If your motor needs replacing, try junk yard engines- you might find a good deal. Have a wet and dry compression test done on the junk yard engines before buying.
