Exhaust heat shield

Scotty, I drive a 2010 Acura TSX 4 cylinder with dual exhaust.  My right muffler heat shield started rattling so I took it off.  I read online that I need to replace ASAP as there's a risk of material surrounding it would melt or catch fire?  I'm driving it and when I park it I go in the trunk to feel if there's any heat, which there isn't.

In your opinion should I replace it, or am I fine to leave it as is until I need to replace the muffler itself??

You don't want to remove heat shielding. It is there for a reason.

I would replace it, but secure it better so it doesn't rattle. Easy job to do yourself.

@mmj suggested the other day that a pop rivet gun is an easy way to quiet the rattling heat shields. Great Idea.

Agreed. That would do the trick and be super easy.
