2003 Sonata. Drove over a large can on a highway and caused some damage to the exhaust system, I could hear a noise from a broken pipe near the catalytic converter. . Took it to a service station and they welded it. There was never any code on the diagnostic tool.
Two days after this repair started to get code P0036. Took it back to same mechanic and he now charged me an additional $200 for an oxygen sensor. He said the broken pipe and P0036 code were not related, just a coincidence. Sounds like BS to me. Any comments from the readers would be appreciated.
Possible he is right. The heating elements in the 02 sensors do fail and need replacement. Here is a code description -

The car is 20 years old. Not unusual for an O2 sensor heater to fail in that time. (Sounds like an awful lot of money though for an O2 sensor!)
