Hello Scotty, I have a 1999 Ford F-150 supercab with a 4.2l v6 and a 5spd manual transmission and currently has 235,635.0 miles on the odometer, now my question is more of an opinion inquiry, should I repair and rebuild the truck or just run it till the wheels fall off? I’ve put this pickup through absolute torture for 6 years now and I mean that literally, 2 oil changes with the most recent being over 2 years ago and only 1 tune up and that was back in 2017, I’ve jumped it atleast a dozen times drifted to many times to count, I’llrev bomb over using the horn and let it bounce off the rev limiter 5+ before letting off, redline through every gear for fun and this old girl has never hesitated to start no matter the weather and has never once failed to get me where I needed or wanted to go, I just don’t know if she should go out in a glorious fashion or if I should actually give her a new life, so I would much rather have the opinion of somebody who has been in the automotive field and has many years of experience as yourself
I would rebuild it and get another 200,000 miles out of it and save yourself spending $50,000 on a new truck that won't be anywhere near as good as the one you already have.
With the extent to which you haven't done maintenance work on it and how you've been driving it I wouldn't think about rebuilding it. Drive it until it doesn't work anymore.
If you still need a truck. I’d play the wait and see game. Start and keep up with basic maintenance. I mean, that’s what would need to be done anyway, and hope that the engine isn’t too far gone. That way, you have little invested in it. But enough to keep it running.
As much as I would love to have spent 50,000 or even 20,000 on this thing when it was brand new that would’ve been nice, I haven’t spent more than $1500 on a car aside from my wife’s new car since I was 18 years old, I managed to pick this truck up for $600 and I’ve had three round trips from phoenix Arizona to Oklahoma City oh drove it every day for five years no less than 50 miles each way, it sat for six months when I got a new gas saver car and I just recently started driving it again because my gas saver needs major repairs, I only wish that we could show videos on these comment areas because I would love to show you guys how surprisingly easy this thing runs and drives after just beating the heck out of it for so long

I hadn’t even thought about that, I may end up doing that today because I have to rebuild the front suspension so I guess we’ll see what happens, thank you for the tip
Amazing! Keep it going!
Thank you kaizen, see that’s why I’m so on the fence about the truck like this thing is insanely reliable and I feel like she deserves something I’m return aha
If it were me I’d get rid of it. Can’t imagine what the inside of that motor looks like with how much you’ve disregarded easy maintenance such as oil changes. But hey seems like you got your good times and memories out of it though 👍
So I responded to kaizen’s brilliant comment of sending video links so if you would like if you haven’t already check it out, they didn’t exactly send in order but none the less those videos do more Justice to explain why I’m so on the fence with everything
