2008 Chevy Cobalt 4 Door. 76,000 miles. Engine and Automatic Transmission are ok. Can I extend the life of the transmission by shifting into neutral at stop lights? I was told this would add life to the tranny.

Wrong. You will actually shorten the lifespan.
An automatic transmission is meant to be left in gear. By shifting into neutral and then into drive every stop, you are greatly increasing the wear on the clutchpacks.
Leave it in drive for the longest life.
