I am retired and I just bought a 2011 Ram 2500 Mega Cab with a 5.7 liter automatic from the original owner. The mileage is 138,000 kms or about 85,000 miles.
There was a message on the dash which said, "Loose Gas Cap".
I checked the fault codes with an Autel 529AL scan tool.
There were two codes.
1. P0301 (Cylinder 1 misfire Detected).
2. P0456 (Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (Very Small Leak).
After watching a few YouTube videos, I installed a new locking gas cap and an Evaporator Module.
I attempted to clear the Codes. It said, " Sending".
When I started the truck, the "Loose Gas Cap" message was gone and the engine light.
However, after a minute of driving, the engine light came back on, but not the loose gas cap message.
I checked both Codes on the scanner and they are still there. I can't clear them. It keeps saying "Sending", but the Codes don't clear.
The truck seems to run smoothly.
When I talked to the previous owner, he said that he changed the spark plugs two years ago, but the truck has been stored in his warehouse for the past two years and hardly driven.
I am not sure where to go from here.

If you still have this code, change the gas cap with an OEM part. If it did not solve the issue, you may need a mechanic to check the EVAP system.
I also installed a new ignition coil in cylinder 1, but the Code P0301 still there,
Check the compression on cylinder 1.
