Hello Scotty , you are my go to channel for all car knowledge and info. Thanks for your service. My issue I took my car to a Firestone place where I purchase tire and asked to check my ac which was not cooling properly and my car was making noise coming from my front dash center vent .
they charged for the diagnostic and told me it was the expansion valve issue and needed to be replaced.
the part wasn’t easily available so they told me to call a head when I was ready to do the job and they will order the part 2 days prior the repair.
I decided a month later called and gave the card info to prepay for the part. Then they notify me if the arrival of the part and dropped my car . Later the same day I received a email that the work was completed and to retrieve my car. Once I got there they told me that the car wasn’t repaired that since I came one month later the compressor failed for running without Freon and now needed new evaporate coil , compressor, and expansion valve.
I got extremely upset from this news they didn’t tell me if the urgency to make the repair timely. I feel that some foul play was done on my car, since when I left the diagnostic my car wasn’t making the vent noise anymore. Do I assume they removed the Freon or fine something worse.
what is your opinion and suggestions

Cripes, Firestone, Pep Boys, Midas - why does anyone go to those incompetent gyp joints? It was more likely incompetence rather than deliberate foul play that caused this problem. (Though certainly crooked mechanics have been known to do the latter in an attempt to drum up more business.) The problem is proving it, especially on an older vehicle where they'll claim it failed due to age.
Unfortunately it is correct that all those parts now need to be replaced, also the condenser, to restore proper functionality. Take it to a good independent shop.
Take it to a real diagnostic mechanic and ask for a review, looking for foul play. You need to gather evidence whether there's been deliberate tampering.
You need another set of trained eyes to make an assessment.
In the meantime, run, don't walk away from Firestone.
Don't take your car to Firestone ever again
Learned years ago to stay away from places like Firestone, Midas, Meineke, etc.... Find a reputable independent shop to bring it to.
