Hey. I'm looking to buy my first car that gets good gas mileage.im looking at a 1999 suzuki swift 150,000 miles and a 88 ford festiva 100,000 miles. both manual transmission and around $1500.what do you think?
The M13A / M15A Suzuki engines last about 190,000-200,000 miles. although Suzuki manuals have a tendency to fail prematurely.
Make sure it drives well enough for you, I’ve herd they’re terrible on the highway!
basically, if it runs well, drives well, doesn’t leak much oil, and you’re fine with how it feels on the highway , why not.
the Ford I think is just too old to maintain nowadays. But other people may not agree.
EDIT: If this is your first car, I’d advise you to save up more and get something safer. Those cars fold like paper when you get into a crash 😬
With $1500, you’re wayyy better off with a 20yr old Corolla or Civic. That Swift is ready to fall apart & already a rattle monster at that age.. Heck, they rattle like mad when new. I don’t want to imagine what 150,000 miles would’ve done to it.
No matter what you buy, have it thoroughly checked out by a reputed mechanic, before you buy it.
I agree with them too. It's fun to have a reliable but needs maintenance first car. Because it will really teach you on how to take care of your car, heck maybe become a mechanic too. So when the new car comes, you'll know how to take care of it.
I would recommend having Toyotas, or Hondas too. They're just value for money. And you have to take consideration about their parts, if your local auto supply has parts for let's say, Corollas, Camry, Civics or etc. whichever car you'd like. So when you have the car, it will be easy for you to buy parts.
And the basics too! Don't forget to have it checked by your trusted mechanic.
Hopefully you find the right car for you!
I would wait until you have $3000 to $4000 saved up and get a much better vehicle.
I think you need more money for a reliable car.
