First Time Truck Buyer Question

I'm buying a new truck. It says the payload capacity is 1820 lbs and towing capacity is 7500 lbs. Does it mean the max weight I can put on the truck is 1820 + 7500 or 7500?

Payload is how much you can put IN or ON the vehicle.

Towing capacity is how much you can PULL BEHIND it.

7,500 lb payload is territory for large commercial trucks.

Also, it’s not a good idea to max out your payload and towing capacity at the same time.

Tongue weight from a trailer comes off your payload and a properly loaded trailer will have 10% of its weight on the truck. So if you put a 7500-pound trailer on your truck, it will have 725 pounds of tongue weight so on a truck that has an 1820 pound payload it will leave you with 1095 pounds of payload.

There are two terms: GVWR and GCWR.
my lunch break is two short can’t type too many words. Search it.  You will find those numbers on every truck
