2006 Scion tC, 123k miles. The previous owner told me the sunroof was bad when I bought the car so I assume it hasn't ever been open in a while. I have already tried syncing it and nothing. The motor makes noise when you press the close button, but pressing open does absolutely nothing. Does anyone know how to rule out the control switch being bad versus the motor being bad?

Those are relatively complex but if you want to take the switch off you could check it with the meters to see if it's not sending power one way but send power the other then you know it would be the switch but internally they are very complex with relays and gears I never work on them anymore they're too much of a giant pain in the ass
