I have a 1998 F150 and the door ding drives me nuts. No matter if the lights on or off, key in or no the door dings when open. Is there a way to get rid of that other than pressing the latch with my key?
Thanks.
Your key-in-ignition switch needs to be replaced.
You can just pop it out and stuff it under the ignition cylinder housing.
If you do that, wrap a little electrical tape around the contact so it doesn't ground out on something.
There's youtubes on how to do it.
Here's one

This happened in my 1999 Ranger a while back. If your ignition is like mine, there's a little metal tab that sticks into the key barrel and it grounds out when it touches the key. The door open warning fully grounds the circuit when you open the door with the key in the ignition, triggering the door chime. My tab came loose and grounded itself inside the barrel, key or no key. I fixed it by electrical taping the tab in place when I was in there replacing the rubber boot on the shifter column. Easy fix.
