Is a 4 cylinder non-turbo minivan capable of getting out of it's own way? What would you recommend? I do not want a hybrid, or a CVT transmission, or an interference engine unless it has a timing chain. Anything from 2016-2021 would be good.
Well if u look, there aren't exactly any minivans with a turbo 4 as a lot of them are V6 engines. Turbo 4s could work, but they wear out a lot quicker than a NA V6. A Sienna can work (Don't buy a Grand Caravan, Sedan, Town, and Country, or Pacifica) since it has a timing chain and the powertrain is reliable (although I would avoid the 8-speed auto model since I have heard about transmissions issues in those, go with the 6 speed) but beware of electrical issues since Minivans are very complex nowadays with all that technology that they are packed with. It doesn't matter a Sienna has a reliable powertrain, everything around it can have the tendency to go haywire. Our 2016 Odyssey hasn't had any issues yet, (although we will have to do a timing belt service eventually).
I agree. I think a Toyota Sienna 6 NA engine would be a fine chose.
Even 3 cylinder mini-vans / 7 seaters have enough power.
(Although it’s not available on the US market) The Citroën SpaceTourer and Peugeot 5008 do 0-60 MPH in 9~9.3 seconds - it’s not fast or sporty but it’s about the same performance as a 2000’s Honda CR-V and only slightly slower then a 1.8L Corolla.

I agree, the sienna 6 cyl NA is a solid choice. Although when shopping new - the improved 8 speeds seems to be better then the old 6 speed. But both transmissions should be fine if you drive in a reasonable manner and change the fluid frequently.
