Hi,
I’m in the market for a new truck, and am likely going with an F150. I’ll be using the truck daily as a commuter, and also intend to use it to tow smaller items (drift boat, eventually bigger boat) as well as a small camper. But the towing will not be super frequent, a few times a year.
Trying to decide between the hybrid (may be better for the daily commute) or the V8 (my understanding is will be most reliable option, maybe alongside the 3.5 eco boost).
Thoughts from this community?
I'm voting for the V8. V8 engines are on their way out in the coming years, so if nothing else buy one before they are gone.
@autodiy Yes, a naturally aspirated, non-electrified V8 half-ton truck will be worth its weight in gold if you take good care of it now.
V8 will be the most reliable. They are big gas hogs though, and if you are going to use it for a daily commute the hybrid may not be a bad choice. Just be prepared for more expensive repairs down the line. If you do decide you want a hybrid, consider a Tundra hybrid, it will be more reliable. Diesels are better for towing, but if you’re only towing small to medium loads few times a year, you’ll be fine. Idk about the ecoboost vs the hybrid, maybe someone can elaborate on that. But definitely the v8 over either of those.
The 3.5 PowerBoost hybrid is quick, but gets 1 MPG better than the 2.7 EcoBoost. Then again, its total system output is 430 Horsepower, 105 more than the 2.7 regular EcoBoost. Here's Scotty's review on the F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mx24zfXWoS8
