Is the Ford Focus se automatic a good first reliable car

I own a 2015 SE and it has been an absolute disaster.

My transmissions blew up. My engine spits carbon. There have been 4 recalls for tire caps. The seat belt retractor broke before I got it off the lot. The car is extremely loud on the road - I had to switch to touring tires to make it bearable.
Once they reprogrammed the CPU to take it easy on the transmision, and those initial kinks were worked out, the car has been very reliable. (For the last 40-50K miles).

But I would never recommend an automatic Focus to anyone.

I retired mine to new-driver duty, and got a nice, quiet, problem-free Fusion instead.

Don't buy one unless its dirt cheap.

They are cheaply made cars I wouldn't buy one.

I would pass on it and look at a Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic as a good, dependable first car.  See our used car buying guide under FAQ.

No, I would pass. They have many issues.
