2013 Ford Focus SE automatic, 145,000 miles.
The car had a recurring problem for a little while where the message "Steering assist fault, service required" would appear and would seemingly lose the power steering. Turning the car off and on again with a few twists of the wheel fixed it every time, until recently it didn't fix itself. Dealership told me it's most likely the rack and pinion and wants to charge me more than the car is worth, but the whole thing doesn't sit well with me. Having an independent mechanic check it out tomorrow, but would like to get your opinion if I could. Cars are certainly not my strong suit.
Thanks in advance,
Elijah, a stressed Ford owner
Well often bad racks. Will do that. But try my video fixing binding power steering Scotty. A lot of times. You can flush them out and I'll work again if there's crud inside
